Actor Riteish Deshmukh has voiced his anger and disgust over the alleged sexual assault of two 4-year-old girls at a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra. The incident, which follows closely on the heels of the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, has sparked widespread outrage across the state and the country.
Deshmukh, a parent himself, took to social media platform X to express his anguish, stating, "As a parent am absolutely disgusted, pained and raging with anger!" He emphasized that schools should be as safe for children as their own homes and called for the "harshest punishment" for the perpetrator, whom he referred to as a "demon."
The actor's comments reflect the growing public anger over the incident. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered a high-level probe into the matter, announcing the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Inspector General of Police Arti Singh. Shinde assured that strict action would be taken against those found guilty.
The incident has also reignited political debates, with former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray mentioning that his government was about to pass the 'Shakti Bill' before being toppled.
