In an ODI match between West Indies and England, Sam Curran set an undesirable record for England by conceding 98 runs in 9.5 overs, surpassing Steve Harmison's previous record. The West Indies' aggressive batting led to England's struggle as they lost the game.
In
the recent ODI clash between England and West Indies, Sam Curran, an emerging
all-rounder for England, faced a challenging outing that marked an unwelcome
milestone in his career. During the match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in
Antigua, Curran endured a difficult spell, conceding an astonishing 98 runs in
9.5 overs. This unfortunate performance propelled him past the former England
pacer, Steve Harmison, in an unwanted record.
Harmison had previously held the record for conceding the most runs in an ODI innings by an English bowler, giving away 97 runs during a match against Sri Lanka in 2006. His struggle to contain the opponents, particularly Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya, resulted in a challenging loss for England. Similarly, Curran faced a daunting task against the West Indian batters, failing to regain control after an early struggle.

The
25-year-old found himself under pressure early on during the Windies' chase,
conceding 30 runs in his initial four overs. Captain Jos Buttler, recognizing
the challenge, replaced him with Brydon Carse. However, despite being given the
penultimate over with the Windies needing 19 runs to win, Curran faltered,
conceding 19 runs in just five balls, including three sixes that sealed the
victory for the hosts.
Curran's
disappointing performance raises concerns for England's bowling attack,
highlighting the formidable challenge posed by the aggressive West Indian
batting lineup led by Shai Hope, who clinched victory with a decisive six over
midwicket.
