Virender Sehwag,
the former Indian cricketer known for his destructive opening partnership with
Sachin Tendulkar, holds Tendulkar in high regard and considers him
unparalleled. Sehwag, who idolized Tendulkar and later became his close friend
and teammate, expresses immense admiration whenever they appear together on the
cricket field, whether in ICC World Cups or Legends League Cricket matches.
Sehwag and
Tendulkar were part of intense rivalries against teams like Australia and
Pakistan, with Sehwag even achieving his famous triple-century against Pakistan
while Tendulkar stood at the non-striker's end.
KThe 2004 tour of
Pakistan proved to be a significant turning point in Sehwag's career. He not
only had the opportunity to play alongside one of the greatest Indian teams but
also faced a formidable Pakistani side.
Among the
talented Pakistani lineup, one batsman captivated Sehwag's imagination like no
other – Inzamam-ul-Haq, whom he considered the best middle-order batsman in
Asia.
Sehwag shared his
admiration for Inzamam during an interview with Gaurav Kapur on the popular
show 'Breakfast with Champions,' produced by Oaktree Sports. Sehwag's praise of
Inzamam over his own teammates Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Sri Lankan legends
Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene speaks volumes.
While the others
had entered the scene four years later, Inzamam had already established himself
as a veteran by then, having made his debut in 1992. Under Inzamam's
leadership, the Pakistan team was a formidable unit from 2003 to 2007, boasting
an impressive win percentage of 58, second only to Wasim Akram.
Sehwag was
particularly impressed by Inzamam's batting prowess and his ability to stay
ahead of his time throughout his career.
During the
2003-04 era, Inzamam displayed remarkable confidence by talking about scoring
at a rate of eight runs per over. He reassured his partners, saying,
"Don't worry. You'll score easily," referring to achieving 80 runs in
10 overs. While this approach might have caused panic in other teams, Inzamam's
unwavering confidence set him apart in Sehwag's eyes.
