Virtual Hearings Now Available in India's Supreme Court as Covid-19 Cases Rise
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dy Chandrachud has acknowledged the increasing Number of Covid-19 cases in India and has declared that the Supreme Court is willing to allow lawyers to participate in court hearings through video conferencing. The bench, which included CJI Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala, acknowledged recent media reports and stated that lawyers could appear through the hybrid mode. The CJI emphasized that the court is fully prepared to hear cases via video conferencing, stating, "We can hear you through video conferencing mode also."
According to data from the Union health ministry, India recorded 4,435 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, marking the largest single-day increase in 163 days. There was also an increase in the number of active cases, which reached 23,091. Consequently, India's total number of Covid-19 cases increased to 4.47 crore (4,47,33,719), and there were an additional 15 deaths, bringing the death toll to 5,30,916.
