The Supreme Court of India has granted anticipatory bail to Malayalam actor Siddique in connection with an alleged sexual assault case dating back to 2016. The complaint, filed by a young actress, emerged in the aftermath of the Justice Hema Commission report, which highlighted widespread sexual harassment and discrimination faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.

During the hearing on Tuesday, the Supreme Court took note of the eight-year delay in filing the First Information Report (FIR) as a significant factor in its decision to grant bail. The court emphasized the need for Siddique to cooperate fully with the investigation.

As part of the conditions for bail, Siddique has been instructed to surrender his passport to the trial court, ensuring he does not leave the country during the investigation. The actor is also required to comply with all directives issued by the authorities.

The allegations against Siddique are among several that have surfaced in recent years, highlighting systemic issues of gender inequality and abuse within the Malayalam film industry. The Justice Hema Commission report has been pivotal in bringing these matters to public attention, leading to increased scrutiny and legal action against alleged offenders.
