Following the division of the Chennai Police Commissionerate in 2021, Selvaraj was assigned to a role within the Tambaram Commissionerate.

In response to a query, the representative said that the SSI had alternated tasks, one of which was a "escort role." An "escort role" in an investigation included taking suspects to different locations, such as crime scenes and courtrooms.
