Tamil Nadu cop enters Bangladesh illegally, arrested

The
authorities of Bangladesh, a neighboring country, have detained a Special
Police Sub-Inspector (SSI) from Tamil Nadu who is believed to have entered the
nation illegally, according to a statement made by a police officer in Chennai
on Saturday. The assertion was based on "information" that had not
been properly verified.
According to a police department official, Special Service Inspector John Selvaraj, who is employed by the Tambaram Commissionerate and works out of the Selaiyur police station, is about 47 years old. He recently took a medical leave of absence. The police department was unaware of any particular place he had gone.
Nothing has yet been formally reported to us by the relevant agencies. A PTI officer said, We have received only unofficial feedbacks appealing that he sneaked into Bangladesh and that he has been arrested there by the authorities.

Following the division of the Chennai Police Commissionerate in 2021, Selvaraj was assigned to a role within the Tambaram Commissionerate.
In response to a query, the representative said that the SSI had alternated tasks, one of which was a "escort role." An "escort role" in an investigation included taking suspects to different locations, such as crime scenes and courtrooms.
