In a developing situation, on Monday afternoon terrorists attacked an Indian Army vehicle at Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir. The reports regarding the incident have been received from the local authorities that the event took place in the Machedi area of Billawar.

According to sources, the armed militants attacked the army vehicle with gunfire and in retaliation, the army soldiers fired back. A shootout between the security forces and the attackers then emerged, with more backup being ordered to the scene to help in the ongoing operation.

This attack has occurred only a day after security forces managed to eliminate six terrorists in two similar operations in the Kulgam district. Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain described the operation on Sunday as the major achievement in improving the security situation in the region.

The frequency of such incidents has led to worry that there could be an increase in terrorist activity in the Union Territory. In the last month, in the Gandoh area of the Doda district three terrorists were gunned down in an operation.

Security forces are on stand-by, while authorities are constantly tracing the happenings in the region. The Indian Army and the local police are currently on the ground trying to contain the situation and prevent harm to the general public.

More information on the operation that is still in progress in Kathua is still awaited while the security forces are committed to fighting terrorism in the area.
