A fruit vendor in Thane was arrested after a video of him urinating in a plastic bag and continuing to sell fruits went viral. The incident caused local outrage and led to the market being vandalized. A similar incident in Ghaziabad has also raised concerns about food safety and hygiene standards in local markets.
In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old fruit vendor in Thane’s Dombivali district was arrested on Sunday after a video showing him urinating in a plastic bag while continuing to sell fruits without washing his hands went viral on social media. The video sparked widespread outrage and led to local residents vandalizing the market before police could arrive, according to a report by PTI.
The incident occurred in the Nilje area of Dombivali, and the vendor, identified as Ali Khan, was taken into custody by the Manpada Police. He faces charges under sections 271, 272, and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which cover negligent acts likely to spread infection and obscenity.
The viral video, which shows Khan urinating in a bag and then resuming his sales, has caused public outcry. However, the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified by HT.
This is not the first such incident, as a similar case occurred in Ghaziabad on September 15. In that case, two juice shop workers were beaten by locals for allegedly mixing urine with juices served to customers. Videos of the attack also went viral, leading to the workers' arrest.
