Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their jealousy-fueled attacks on Rahul Gandhi's visit to Manipur and his interaction with the Opposition. Kharge accused the BJP of lacking a democratic mindset and resorting to dictatorship-like behavior.*

The controversy arose when Rahul Gandhi, former Congress chief, visited relief camps in Churachandpur, a town severely affected by ethnic clashes in Manipur. During the visit, the local police stopped Gandhi's convoy at Bishnupur, citing concerns of possible attacks on the carcade. Eventually, he traveled to Churachandpur via a chopper to meet the affected people.

Responding to the incident, Mallikarjun Kharge asserted that the BJP's accusations against Rahul Gandhi were based on jealousy. He argued that when a Congress leader tries to understand the challenges faced by the people, the BJP labels it as drama. Similarly, when the Opposition meets in Patna, the BJP dismisses it as a mere photo session.

Kharge further questioned the lack of security provided to Rahul Gandhi during his visit. He emphasized that considering the leader's previous 4,000-kilometer-long foot journey, adequate protection should have been arranged. He also criticized the BJP for not extending the same courtesy to an Opposition leader that they grant to their own party members.

Rahul Gandhi's two-day visit to Manipur includes interactions with affected people in relief camps and meetings with leaders from various political parties and civil society. Despite the BJP's criticism, Congress leaders accompanied Gandhi during his visit.

In response to the BJP's remarks, Sambit Patra, a BJP spokesperson, accused Rahul Gandhi of being stubborn and lacking sensitivity for not considering the ground realities before his visit to Manipur. He attributed the current situation in Manipur to legacy issues, largely blaming the Congress for it.

The situation remains tense as political parties exchange criticism over Rahul Gandhi's visit, with the Congress asserting the right of an Opposition leader to visit affected areas and the BJP questioning his intentions and actions. As the political drama unfolds, the focus remains on the welfare of the people affected by the ethnic clashes in Manipur.
