Retain your blue verified checkmark on Twitter for free, here’s how

"Twitter's Blue Check Revamp:-

Twitter's CEO, Elon Musk, has recently Stirred controversy by removing the blue verification checkmark from many high-profile accounts on the social media platform. This badge, which was originally intended to indicate that an account has been verified by Twitter as authentic, has been given to around 300,000 users, including journalists, athletes, and public figures.

However, as of April 20, 2023, many of these verified accounts began losing their blue checkmarks, and to keep the badge, individuals are required to pay USD 8 a month, while organizations need to pay USD 1,000 per month plus USD 50 per affiliated or employee account.

Among the notable figures who lost their verification badges were Beyoncé, Pope Francis, Oprah Winfrey, and former President Donald Trump. Twitter's new verification system has caused confusion among users, including celebrities such as LeBron James, Stephen King, and William Shatner. Despite some users claiming they have not paid for verification, they have been granted the blue checkmark. Musk has admitted to personally paying for some verifications, which has added to the confusion surrounding Twitter's new system.

Singer Dionne Warwick has criticized the system, calling it a "mess." Warwick expressed concern that with Twitter's current trajectory, anyone could impersonate her online. Despite her reluctance to pay for Twitter Blue, she ultimately lost her blue check mark. Twitter Blue subscribers who verified their phone numbers were able to keep their verification, but this only confirms their access to a phone number and not their identity.

The loss of verification wasn't limited to celebrities and journalists, as various government agencies, nonprofits, and public-service accounts worldwide also lost their verified status. This development raises worries that Twitter may no longer be a reliable source for obtaining accurate and trustworthy information, especially in emergency situations. The situation has become muddled, leading some authentic accounts to compete with fake accounts that claim to represent the same organizations.

For instance, the official Twitter account of the New York City government lost its blue check, causing a newly created spoof account to claim authenticity. Recently, two spoof accounts on Twitter caused confusion by claiming to be the official accounts of Pope Francis and the New York City Government. This incident highlights the ongoing problem of fake accounts on social media platforms.

Meanwhile, Twitter's subscription service, Twitter Blue, has not yet gained significant popularity. According to Travis Brown, only around 5% of verified accounts have paid to join Twitter Blue. Similarly, a recent analysis by Similarweb found that only 116,000 confirmed sign-ups for Twitter Blue were made on desktop computers last month, which does not represent a significant source of revenue for Twitter.

While some high-profile users are upset by Musk's recent move to change his Twitter username, others, including some right-wing figures and Musk fans, support it. Nevertheless, Twitter Blue does not appear to be a significant money-maker for the social media platform, which has relied on advertising for most of its revenue.

Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion in October and is attempting to increase revenue by encouraging more individuals to pay for a premium subscription. Additionally, he believes that the blue verification checkmark has become an unwarranted status symbol for the privileged elite and news reporters who received it for free from Twitter's prior leadership. Twitter began using the blue checkmark to protect celebrities from impersonation and prevent the spread of misinformation. However, most of the verified accounts are not well-known figures, including politicians, activists, journalists, and others who are not household names.
