BCCI is eyeing Hardik Pandya as a potential captain for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy amid uncertainties over Rohit Sharma's future. With Rohit opting out of key Test matches and Jasprit Bumrah leading in the red-ball format, Pandya stands out as a strong contender to lead the ODI squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly considering all-rounder Hardik Pandya to captain India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, should current skipper Rohit Sharma step down or be relieved of his duties. This development comes as speculation continues to swirl regarding Rohit's future in Test cricket following his recent decision to opt out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy decider against Australia.

Rohit Sharma's performance has come under scrutiny following a challenging end to 2024 and an equally tough start to 2025. His decision to sit out the crucial Sydney Test has intensified conversations within BCCI about long-term leadership across formats. Rohit, who retired from T20 internationals after leading India to World Cup glory last year, has yet to clarify his plans for Test cricket.

In the Test arena, Jasprit Bumrah has already demonstrated his leadership credentials, guiding India to a notable victory in Perth. However, for limited-overs cricket, the selectors are reportedly leaning towards Hardik Pandya. Known for his composure under pressure and dynamic playing style, Pandya has led India in various white-ball formats in the absence of senior players, showcasing his tactical acumen and inspiring performances.

With Suryakumar Yadav helming the T20 squad but struggling to cement his ODI position, Hardik appears to be the frontrunner for ODI leadership. Emerging stars like Shubman Gill are seen as future prospects, but the selectors believe they require further experience before stepping into captaincy roles.

As BCCI navigates this transitional phase, Hardik Pandya’s versatility and leadership experience position him as a likely candidate to lead India into one of cricket's most prestigious tournaments.
