Vinesh Phogat declined Prime Minister Modi’s call after her 2024 Olympic disqualification due to imposed conditions. She voiced concerns over her emotions being used for political purposes and criticized Modi’s silence during the protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused of sexual harassment by Indian wrestlers.
Former wrestler and current Congress candidate, Vinesh Phogat, revealed that she declined a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after her disqualification from the 2024 Paris Olympics. Phogat stated that conditions were placed on the call, including that no member of her team be present, while two individuals from the Prime Minister's side would record the conversation for social media. She refused, believing the call could be used to exploit her emotions for political gain.
Phogat expressed her frustration with the imposed conditions, stating she would have welcomed a genuine call without publicity. Her disqualification from the Olympics for missing the weight category by 100 grams marked a significant setback in her career, leading to her retirement from wrestling.

Additionally, Phogat voiced her discontent over the lack of support from Modi regarding the protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, former Wrestling Federation of India chief, accused of sexual harassment. Phogat and other athletes, including Sakshi Malik, led protests demanding action against Singh. The wrestler’s shift into politics comes ahead of her contesting for the Julana assembly seat in the upcoming Haryana elections.
