The couple's disturbing actions were brought to the attention of the authorities by concerned neighbours who noticed unusual behaviour as well as the absence of the couple's 8-month-old son. It came as a shock to the neighbours when they discovered that the couple,  who were facing financial hardships, suddenly possessed an iPhone.

The appearance of an iPhone coincided with the disappearance of the baby raising doubts, which is when they confronted the parents. Upon initial questioning, the couple provided false information about the whereabouts of their child, claiming the baby was with a relative. However, when the suspicion of the neighbours grew, they informed the local councillor about the disappearance of the child, who quickly alerted the police.

When the police confronted the couple, the mother of the baby eventually confessed that they had sold their baby to fund their travels to various parts of West Bengal for creating Instagram reels. The police then rescued the baby from the clutches of a woman in the Khardaha area of the North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.

The local councillor reported that after Jaydev sold his 8-month-old son, he also attempted to sell their 7-year-old daughter on Saturday midnight. He, along with the neighbours, immediately informed the police, leading to Jaydev's arrest by the authorities.
