In response to escalating violence in Manipur, the Centre is deploying 50 additional CRPF and BSF units. This follows the deaths of six Meitei individuals and an encounter killing 11 alleged Kuki insurgents. Amid ongoing ethnic tensions, Home Minister Amit Shah is intensifying efforts to stabilize the region.

Amid renewed ethnic violence in Manipur, the Indian government announced the deployment of 50 additional companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) to the state. These reinforcements, exceeding 5,000 personnel, will join the existing 218 central armed police force (CAPF) units stationed in the region.

The decision follows a volatile escalation in violence after six members of a Meitei family, including three women and three children, were found dead, allegedly abducted by Kuki militants. This incident occurred shortly after 11 alleged Kuki insurgents were killed in a clash with the CRPF.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened multiple high-level meetings to address the crisis, underscoring the government's focus on stabilizing the region. The new deployments include 35 CRPF units and 15 BSF units, strategically placed based on reported violence levels and the dynamic law and order situation.

Since ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities began in June 2023, over 230 lives have been lost, and thousands have been displaced. The government’s response aims to quell the unrest and restore order amid mounting challenges.
