France offers full technology transfer to India for nuclear submarines, jet engines, and underwater drones in an effort to enhance India’s defence capabilities. The strategic dialogue will address key military collaborations, regional security issues, and deepening Indo-Pacific cooperation between the two nations.
France has pledged its full support to India’s defence sector with a significant offer to collaborate on nuclear attack submarines, 110-kilo Newton thrust aircraft engines, and advanced underwater drones. The offer includes 100% transfer of technology for these projects, solidifying the strong defence partnership between the two nations. These key issues will be discussed in the upcoming India-France strategic dialogue from September 30 to October 1, when India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, will meet with France's Diplomatic Advisor, Emmanuel Bonne, in Paris.
The collaboration comes at a critical time, as India seeks to enhance its naval capabilities with two nuclear attack submarines and bolster its intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems. France has offered autonomous systems across air, surface, and underwater domains to protect India's naval assets. Additionally, France’s Safran Engines has proposed a joint project to design and produce 110-kilo Newton thrust engines for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), with full technology transfer and training in advanced metallurgy.

This strategic partnership is essential to India’s pursuit of defence self-reliance. France has long been a trusted supplier of advanced weaponry, with both nations deepening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and focusing on the Indian Ocean. The dialogue will also address regional issues, including conflicts in the Middle East and the political situation in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
