Himachal Pradesh: 257 Human Lives Lost, Educational Institutions Closed, Exams Canceled, Loss of Rs 7000 Cr so far

In Himachal Pradesh, the devastating monsoon began on 24th June. On Sunday, the government officials announced the loss of 257 lives and Rs 7020.28 crore so far to the state due a range of causes including floods and landslides. The state has been in the worst condition compared to all other states nationwide.
The officials reported that Out of 257, 66 died in landslides or flash floods, 191 in accidents or other causes. 32 went missing with 290 injured. Officials further added that 1376 houses were damaged, 7935 partially, 270 shops, 2727 cow sheds were damaged due to monsoon.
Due to continuous rainfall, the Himachal Pradesh Government announced on Sunday that all the ongoing Post Graduate class exams scheduled for August 14 at Himachal Pradesh University have been called off. The university cited heavy rainfall in the state as the reason for the cancellation, including the cancellation of B.Ed. exams on the same date.
Previously, a notice was issued indicating that all schools and colleges within the state would not operate on August 14.
In light of the substantial rainfall, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has made this choice to ensure the safety of the students. Following the Chief Minister's directive, the Education Secretary has released a notification mandating the closure of all government and private educational institutions on August 14.
The Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and all District Collectors to closely monitor the situation arising from the heavy rainfall. He emphasized that, The administrative personnel should remain vigilant and ensure seamless provisions for roads, electricity, and water.
