LGBTQ people:-
The country of Afghanistan had never fostered inclusive cultures for LGBTQ people. However, the situation is on a further horrific decline after the Taliban took over the control of Afghanistan.
Abuse of Power by Inflicting Crimes Based on Gender Identity
Many instances have come forward which show the vehement abuse of power by the Taliban government in subjecting LGBTQ people to hate crimes like rape, gangrape and violent threats. It not only poses a huge concern for basic human rights of the Afghan LGBTQ people but also snatch away the freedom to choose gender identity. Coercive factors like deterrence due to targeted crime are sure to hamper the discretion of an individual to choose the gender to which one conforms.
LGBTQ People Fleeing to Other Locations!
The Human Rights Watch and OutRight Action International, after conducting extensive interviews, found that people belonging to the LGBTQ community have had no other option but to flee from the country. As a result, many of them are currently displaced! This has widespread implications. It means that the Afghan LGBTQ people are deprived of the opportunity of living stable lives at fixed locations with safety and a constant source of income.
Is There No Way Ahead?
The lives of LGBTQ people in Afghanistan could not get more desperate and scary than what it is now. Currently, there cannot be observed any ray of hope. However, collection sanctions by nations in deciding not to internationally recognize the Taliban government can be a strong step to send out a message to the Taliban, not only for the plight of LGBTQ people but Afghan Women as well.
