The Caribbean vacation of the newly feting T20 world champions, the India cricket team has been dampened by Hurricane Beryl which has made changes to the teams travel plans from Barbados.

Hurricane Beryl, a category 4 storm, measures 210 kmph is currently 570 kilometers east southeast of barbados. A storm has been forecasted to hit the area and as a result, the authorities have declared that the airport in Bridgetown will be closed, which has caused a lot of confusion as to the travel plans of the Indians.

It was supposed to take a flight from Bridgetown to New York and then fly to India via Dubai using Emirates Airlines but now it is just thinking of other options. A person familiar with the team travelling informed PTI on condition of anonymity, “The next plan afoot is to arrange a charter flight directly from here to Delhi The idea of a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also being discussed.

The entire entourage, including the Indian players, the team management, their families, and other officials, stands at around 70 individuals. Another drawback of a large group size is the fact that it becomes incredibly difficult to organize new travel plans within a short span of time.

India won the T20 World Cup on June 29, putting an end to the team’s 11-year skein without an ICC trophy. The final against South Africa was a tense one but India managed to win by seven runs only. Captain of the Indian team Virat Kohli opened the inning and played a crucial knock of 76 off 59 balls to make a target of 177 on the board. The Indian bowlers then were able to contain South Africa to 169/8 and thus claiming the trophy for the second time since the first title in 2007.

Cricket lovers are still waiting for the return of their favorites with open arms, but they have to be patient because of this unusual weather. The team management and relevant authorities are doing their best to facilitate safe and early return of the Indian cricket heroes, without compromising their security in light of the advancing hurricane ‘Beryl’.
