The family of Muhammad Shaheen Shah, a Kerala-based YouTuber, has accused jail authorities of forcibly cutting his hair after his arrest in an attempted murder case. Jail officials claim it was standard procedure, while the family alleges it was done without his consent, affecting his mental health and professional commitments.
The family of Muhammad Shaheen Shah, a YouTuber from Kerala known as "Manavalan" on YouTube, has alleged that jail authorities forcibly cut his hair after he was remanded to judicial custody. The 26-year-old from Thrissur was arrested for allegedly attempting to run over college students with a car.
Shaheen's family claimed that his hair and beard were trimmed so extensively that he became "unrecognisable." They alleged that he had requested time to file an application against the haircut, citing an upcoming film role and his marriage, but jail officials disregarded his plea.
Jail authorities stated that the haircut was part of standard procedures. However, after Shaheen showed signs of distress, he was transferred to a mental health centre in Thrissur, where he is currently under observation.
The family has denied the claim that Shaheen agreed to the haircut, asserting that their complaints to the court, the Kerala chief minister, and senior police officials reflect his objections.
