Prime Minister Narendra Modi canceled his visit to Pune due to heavy rainfall causing waterlogging. The visit was intended for the inauguration of the Pune Metro line and launching development projects worth over ₹22,600 crore. Traffic and parking restrictions were enforced across the city in anticipation of the visit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Pune has been canceled due to severe rainfall causing heavy waterlogging and mud slurry at SP College campus, where he was to hold a public rally following the inauguration of the Pune Metro line. The visit was meant to flag off the new Metro train and launch development projects worth over ₹22,600 crore.
The Pune Metro stretch from District Court to Swargate covers 3.64 kilometers and includes three stations: Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate. PM Modi was set to inaugurate the underground section connecting Civil Court to Swargate, which would mark the completion of the Pune Metro Rail Project (Phase-1). The cost of this underground section is approximately ₹1,810 crore.
In addition to the Metro inauguration, PM Modi was also expected to lay the foundation stone for a memorial dedicated to Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule’s first girl school at Bhidewada.
Traffic restrictions were imposed throughout Pune starting at 3 PM in anticipation of the visit, banning heavy vehicles on 13 key roads to ensure smooth passage for the Prime Minister’s convoy. Specific road closures and alternate routes have been designated to manage traffic during this time.
