Punjab Facing Chaos Flood

Continuous rainfall has led to a flood-like scenario in low-lying regions of Gurdaspur, Punjab. The streets are submerged, causing inconvenience and distress among commuters.

In relation to the flood-like circumstances in Gurdaspur, Ashwini Gotyal SSP of Batala, Punjab, provides insight, explaining that significant portions of Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur have been submerged due to the discharge of water from the Pong dam. A considerable number of approximately 75 individuals have been successfully relocated to safer locations through rescue operations thus far.

Punjab's Deputy Commissioner for Gurdaspur, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, on Thursday, addresses the flood-like conditions in the region, reporting that over 100 individuals have been successfully saved through collaborative efforts involving NDRF, SDRF, and the Army. Adequate provisions have been established for those who have been rescued, and ongoing rescue operations are being conducted in the affected area.

Due to heavy rainfall in its catchment regions, the Pong dam situated on the Beas River is experiencing a surge in its water level. Following the release of water from the Pong dam on Tuesday, Gurdaspur's Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal remarked that the water level in the Beas River has surged. This increase has resulted in an inundation of several villages due to a breach in the embankment along the river, including locations like Chechia Chorian, Pakhowal, Kherha, Dalelpur, Padana, Chhina Bet, Nadala, Jagatpur Kalan, Kohlian, and Khariaan.
