In a significant anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, security forces neutralized two terrorists on October 4, 2024, under "Operation Gugaldhar." The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched the joint mission following intelligence reports of an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control (LoC).

The terrorists, spotted in the Gugaldhar region, were challenged by the alert troops, which resulted in a brief exchange of gunfire. Both terrorists were killed, and "war-like stores" — including weapons and ammunition — were recovered from the site. The army is continuing its search operation to ensure the area is secure.

The infiltration attempt comes amid heightened security measures in the region, with several encounters taking place in recent weeks. A landmine blast near the LoC on Friday also injured two soldiers, who are now in stable condition at the army hospital in Drugmulla.

The operation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in securing the volatile border regions of Jammu and Kashmir. The army’s swift response, based on real-time intelligence, highlights the preparedness of the security forces to thwart cross-border terrorism attempts.

The joint forces are maintaining a vigilant presence in the region, and the operation remains ongoing to eliminate any remaining threats.
