Tamil Nadu's political landscape sees a dramatic twist as the Governor dismissed Senthil Balaji, a key figure in a money laundering scandal, from the state cabinet.
Surprisingly, this decision was made without consultation with Chief Minister MK Stalin, causing quite a stir.
Balaji, who found himself in hot water after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on June 14, remains in judicial custody until July 12. The minister's troubles extend beyond the money laundering case, as he has also been embroiled in an alleged cash-for-jobs scandal dating back to 2014 when he served as the transport minister under the previous AIADMK government. It's worth noting that he switched allegiance to the DMK in 2018.
Adding further complexity to the situation, Balaji recently underwent a bypass surgery at a private hospital in Chennai on June 21. Consequently, the former minister without portfolio had his responsibilities reallocated to his cabinet colleagues, namely Thangam Thennarasu and S. Muthusamy. As Tamil Nadu grapples with these political upheavals, the state remains captivated by the unfolding events.
