On Saturday, Delhi Police reported the arrest of a criminal
associated with the notorious Gogi gang. The gang has been linked to the recent
killing of its rival, Tillu Tajpuriya, at Tihar jail in Delhi.
According to officers, the notorious criminal, Jitender Gogi,
heads the gang.
On July 28, the Special Staff of Delhi Police, Outer North District (OND), received information about a man named Pawan (23) from Sonepat, Haryana. According to officials, Pawan was identified as a member of the notorious Gogi gang, which is known for its involvement in various criminal activities, including extortions and robberies, within the OND area.
Upon reaching the Gas Agency situated on the highway connecting Lal Flats to Bawana in Delhi, a team from the Delhi Police prepared a plan to apprehend a suspected gang member. Soon after they arrived, they noticed a man riding a motorcycle along Lal Flats to Bawana Road. The police signaled the man to stop for questioning.
However, instead of complying with their orders, the man
accelerated his motorcycle and attempted to escape from the scene, according to
the police statement. During the chase along Lal Flats to Bawana Road, the
suspect lost control of his motorcycle and fell to the ground as his
two-wheeler slid.
As per the information provided by the police, in a desperate attempt to escape, the suspect resorted to pulling out a firearm and firing a round at the officers. The accused fired another round at the police, in response to which the officers acted in self-defense, leading to an exchange of gunfire. In the exchange of gunfire, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg.
The police team then managed to apprehend the wounded suspect and he was quickly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment under police custody. Upon conducting a proper identification, the police confirmed his connections with the notorious Gogi gang.
An official reported that, on apprehending the suspect, they
recovered a pistol, two empty rounds, a live cartridge, and a motorcycle that
had been reported as stolen.
The Delhi Police registered a case against him under relevant
sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act at Bawana police
station. The FIR has been filed under IPC sections 186 (obstructing public
servant in the discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force
to deter public servant from discharge of duty), and 307 (attempt to murder),
along with sections 25 (punishment for certain offenses) and 27 (punishment for
using arms) of the Arms Act.
