The medical community and citizens of Kolkata are reeling from the shocking rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Colleagues of the victim have now shed light on her final day, painting a picture of a dedicated professional whose life was cut tragically short.

On August 8, 2024, the victim arrived at the hospital's OPD at 10 AM, showcasing her characteristic punctuality. Assigned to unit 2A, she diligently admitted six patients throughout her shift. Despite the demanding workload, she only managed to have lunch after 3 PM in the staff sleeping room.

A colleague described her as "reserved but very focused," highlighting her commitment to patient care. The victim's work ethic was evident as she continued her rounds well into the night, with a junior doctor recalling a brief encounter in the corridor where she mentioned her heavy workload.

After a grueling 16-hour shift, the doctor retired to the seminar hall at 2 AM. Tragically, this would be where her life came to a violent end. CCTV footage captured Sanjay Roy, a Kolkata police civil volunteer, entering the seminar hall at 4:03 AM. Roy has since been arrested in connection with the crime.

The CBI, now handling the investigation, has refuted initial reports of a gang rape, stating that Roy is believed to be the sole perpetrator. However, they are skeptical of Roy's claim that he found the victim already injured and unconscious upon entering the hall.

This horrific incident has sparked outrage across India, raising serious questions about the safety of healthcare workers and the security measures in place at medical institutions. As the investigation continues, the medical community mourns the loss of a promising young doctor whose dedication to her patients persisted until her final hours.
